Iceland 2024: Vík, Part II

Living in Colorado, I don't see the ocean all that often.  So being right on the coast made me want to go out to take some more photos while we were in Vík, and hopefully catch a sunset.

The sunset, unfortunately, was out.  Thick clouds had rolled in during the afternoon.  I tried to see if I could get to the Reynisdrangar sea stacks from the Víkurfjara Black Sand Beach, but the tide was too high.

Time to make lemonade with these lemons, and the surf seemed strong enough for some compelling shots.

I personally was compelled, at least.  The power of the sea always mesmerizes me.

Well, I wasn't too mesmerized to scramble up some of the rocks and try to get a bit closer to the action, without my camera or myself ending up in the water.

I stayed up here for a good long time, watching wave after wave crash against the rocks, thinking each was even more impressive than the one before.

A view down the beach before carefully scrambling back down the rocks and heading back to our hotel.  No sunset, no sea stacks, and I was still glad to have gone back out!
