After a relaxing spa day at the Blue Lagoon upon our arrival in Iceland, we got a good night's sleep and headed northeast bright and early to Thingvellir National Park.
The drive into the park went by Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. I loved the starkness near the shore here.
We parked at the visitor center and walked down to Almannagjá gorge. The highlight of the walk was the first of many beautiful waterfalls we would see on the trip -- Öxarárfoss.
The falls are small but still striking, and the combination of flowing water and ice made for an even more special scene.
I think I'll end up saying this a lot when reviewing the trip, but the sun staying low to the horizon all day long really does help add interest to a photo. Not that this beautiful place needs much help!
