An unexpected day off and unseasonably warm November weather sent me out looking for wildlife photos today. I decided to try a couple of old mainstays that I hadn't visited since we moved back nearly 2 1/2 years ago, starting with Sterne Park in Littleton.
Sterne Park has provided me with some wonderful Wood Duck photos in the past, and I hoped it might again. I even filled a bag with crabapples, which I know they love.
Alas, there were no Wood Ducks in residence. Fortunately, there were plenty of Canada Geese who were as shy and retiring as usual, which is to say not at all.
All right, this particular goose looks very demure. Very mindful.
I accidentally flushed this little Ruddy Duck while I was looking for a spot to sit along the shore of the pond.
My crabapples fortunately didn't go to waste. The geese found them delicious.
There were a few Hooded Mergansers that were as standoffish as usual, unhurriedly but undeniably swimming to whatever side of the pond I wasn't on. So no shots of them. But I'm glad I got to enjoy the antics of an under appreciated bird!
