I've got a nice little spring break streak going, where each of the last four I've spent time in a different state. Three years ago it was New Mexico and Carlsbad Caverns with Zak. Two years ago, Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas with Taryn. Last year the whole family went to Colorado. And this year we went up to Oklahoma for a few nights in Broken Bow.
The first night I headed out to the lake to check out the sunset. Heavy rains the previous week had the water level high enough that trees along the shore were partially submerged.
With few clouds, color in the sky was faint.
Being on the west side of the lake made it tricky to find a spot where I could capture the setting sun and water. A check of the map showed that there was an inlet by the marina with a bend that allowed me to set up and get the angle I had hoped for. I even found a nice composition with some trees framing the scene and rocks in the foreground.
Same spot, just recomposed to get more sky and treetops. I think I prefer the version with more water.
There's always more color in the sky after the sun goes down. Tonight, that was relative. Again, the lack of clouds kept the color from being exceptionally vivid. But as long as the sky isn't completely overcast, there really isn't any such thing as a "bad" sunset.
Solid start to the trip!
