While I was posting all about my epic waterfall road trip in early June, I was still getting out and shooting other things as well. But I didn't want to disrupt the flow of the waterfall posts, which basically means I'm not a month behind on some of the other great stuff I've gotten out and shot. Time to start fixing that!
I didn't get much in the way of sunrise or sunset shots on my waterfall trip, so I planned a visit to Roxborough State Park to change that. It had been years since I'd hiked to the summit of Carpenter Peak, so that became the planned destination. I arrived before dawn, and started to get glimpses of the sun coming up to the east as I began my hike.As the trail started to ascend I got a classic view of rays breaking over the horizon.
Nice warm views of some of the formations in the park. Good weather was clearly going to be my companion on my hike.
Wildflowers were popping, and golden hour light gave me nice looks at Common Yarrow...
...Little Sunflower...

...and Lambert's Locoweed.
Wildlife sighting! A foraging Mountain Cottontail.
Low morning light always provides cool opportunities to spotlight subjects against dark backgrounds that are still in shadow, like this Upland Larkspur.
I watched this Long-eared Owl glide silently through a wooded section along the trail, fortunately landing on a lit branch. Still some distance away, but always cool to see owls.
More to come!
