Mt. Crested Butte Fourth of July

Crested Butte takes full advantage of its location for its Fourth of July festivities. The annual fireworks show is right at the base of the mountain, and they even shine a spotlight on the summit. That definitely makes for some unique photos that could only have been shot here.

I'd never seen the show before this year, so I set up on the second floor balcony of our condo and focused on what I thought would be a good location. With obstructions like street lights and parking lot guard rails potentially in the way, I ended up not altering the composition very much once I got locked in. The timing and color of the various blasts provides the only substantial variety in this series.
