Fairview Reservoir Goslings

I noticed driving home a few days ago that some of our neighborhood Canada Geese had babies. So even with overcast conditions, my mission tonight was clear. Go shoot them!

Canada Goose Goslings
I had to hunt for them a bit, but found them fairly quickly under some trees.

Why did the gosling cross the trail?  Because Mom and Dad didn't care for me poking around, and wanted the family in the water.

A small flotilla of babies.

They didn't stay in the water long, and the seven goslings took up shelter under Mom for a short rest.

That's got to be about as safe and secure as a baby can feel.

Canada Goose Goslings
They didn't stay resting for long, as this one apparently had something to tell its sibling ...

... which said sibling apparently didn't care for, and departed its feathered sanctuary.

And soon enough everyone was up, and we were back on the move.

Canada Goose Goslings
The group generally stayed pretty tightly packed, but every once in a while one would stray for a solo shot.

The perspective on this one is interesting to me.  There's no horizon with clouds in the distant sky -- it's all reflections in the water.  But a trick of the eye makes the goslings look GINORMOUS.

Back on land, carefully shepherded between mom and dad.

A parting shot of this sibling pair.  And to think -- the whole time I was in the park, some other poor saps were probably stuck in traffic commuting home from work.  Winning!
