I managed to take advantage of the gorgeous spring weather to mark off another suggestion from "60 Hikes Within 60 Miles of Denver" -- Colorado Hills Open Space in Westminster. Ginny got to come along to enjoy the off leash trails, and Zak even agreed to make the trek!
The trail ended at Mower Reservoir, which is small under any conditions but even smaller right now due to the dry March. The edge of the water looked like it was a good 20 yards closer to the middle than it would normally be.
The greatest thing about the reservoir was all the frogs we could hear chirping. We didn't try to find any because I wasn't interested in having Ginny try to catch them, given her futile efforts chasing grasshoppers on the rest of the trail.
These two shots actually didn't come out as well as I'd hoped, but I was still amazed at how different they looked just from rotating the polarizing filter. Light's a pretty crazy thing.
We meandered around for two hours, covering about five miles thanks to some backtracking. I'm a little curious how it will look in another month or so when the wildflowers start blooming, but definitely wouldn't want to come back in August when the place probably just bakes under the hot Colorado summer sun!
