Lost Lake, Part II

The sun being lower in the sky this time of year means there's almost never bad light for pictures. You can still get dramatic shadows even at midday.

Lost Lake at last. The ice looked pretty solid, but you could regularly hear noises best described as groanings from under it. The best guess from discussions with other hikers was that it was the sound of the ice fracturing. Needless to say, I stuck to the edges.

I believe that's Mt. Jasper to the northwest.

The view from the lake's far southeast corner.

I was smitten with this tree stump, and the patterns in the snow around it. So I photobombed a lot of my own pictures with it.

The lake was what I mainly came to shoot, so the lake is what most of my pictures ended up being of.

Aaaaaannnnndddd one more of the lake.

I sometimes can't believe that my phone camera has HDR, but my Nikon doesn't.

Hessie Townsite was just a handful of apparently long-abandoned buildings. I'll bet I could have easily become its Foursquare mayor.

State Highway 72 has some terrific views of Indian Peaks, except for the road. And cars. And power lines.

Really a fun day. I took my sweet time and spent nearly four hours there, covering only about 4.5 miles. Had a great stop for lunch at the Wondervu Cafe, thanks to the recommendation of co-worker and rugged outdoorsman Josh Futterman.

It would be great to come back in summer with the rest of the family -- human and canine -- and let everyone enjoy the experience!

Photo of tree-stump, lake, mountain is beautiful fore-mid-background balance.

Thanks! That's what I was going for, but don't think I quite nailed the proportions like I wanted to. Guess I'll have to go back and try again. :)
