The next stops on the Great Summer 2025 Colorado Waterfall Tour were around Pagosa Springs, an area I'd driven through before but never spent much time in.
I had stopped to look down at the Wolf Creek Valley before. Even under overcast skies, it impresses. Notice, too, the faint rainbow struggling to show itself on the left.Treasure Falls is a short but somewhat steep walk from the road. The best view is from the bridge that crosses Fall Creek.
After a good night's rest at the Pagosa Riverside Campground, I was up early the next morning to head to a location recommended by the camp host -- Piedra Falls.
The falls are at the end of a lovely and fairly flat half-mile trail (I was starting to get used to these short walks), but tucked around a bit of a curve in the rocks that made them a challenge for me to shoot.
The trail mainly follows the East Fork of the Piedra River, with the spray in the distance giving a hint of the view coming at the end.
The wet spring is bringing out the vegetation, like this Creeping Mahonia.
I liked how the sunlight filtering through the trees lit up this tiny evergreen. Grow, little tree!
I initially drove past this Piedra River overlook, then remembered that I may never be back here again and no particular place to be at any particular time. That's often tough for me on these road trips -- to take my time and truly explore. I'm glad I stopped, because the view is terrific.
Four falls down, and still many more to come!
